Yesteryear Collection

On 10th December 1802 seven pioneer Constables under Captain Bartlett were sworn in by Thames Magistrates to police the West India Dock. Eventually other Dock Companies followed suit until in 1909 they were amalgamated to form the Port of London Authority Police.
The Police Convalescent Home celebrates its’ centenary this year, having been established by the late Catherine Gurney in 1890 at Hove, Sussex, for the benefit of Police Officers requiring rest and a change of air after illness or injury. It recently moved to splendid new premises at Goring-On-Thames in Berkshire.
Sergeant Sean Hollands of the Port of London Authority Police has commissioned this model to raise funds for the Home, with which his force has been closely associated since its earliest days. The model depicts an ambulance in use by the PLA Police circa 1925 and has the correct registration from that time.
The Port of London Authority Police today run the very last ambulance service to be manned by British Police Officers, and it is to them that this model is dedicated.
